Abbott Laboratories – Medications A–Z

A

  • Alin (amoxicillin + clavulanic acid)

    • Indications: Respiratory, urinary, skin infections

    • Dose: 875/125 mg twice daily or 500/125 mg three times daily (7–10 days)

  • Axetin (cefuroxime axetil)

    • Indications: Respiratory infections, sinusitis, skin/soft tissue infections

    • Dose: 250–500 mg twice daily (7–10 days)

B

  • Betaserc / Vertin (betahistine)

    • Indications: Ménière’s disease, vestibular vertigo

    • Dose: 16 mg three times daily or 24 mg twice daily

  • Brufen (ibuprofen)

    • Indications: Pain, fever, inflammation

    • Dose: 200–400 mg every 6–8 h PRN; max OTC 1,200 mg/day; Rx up to 2,400–3,200 mg/day

  • Biaxin (clarithromycin) – see “C”

C

  • Cecon (ascorbic acid, vitamin C)

    • Indications: Vitamin C deficiency, immune support

    • Dose: 500–1000 mg daily

  • Clarid / Klacid / Klaricid / Biaxin (clarithromycin)

    • Indications: Respiratory/skin infections; H. pylori eradication

    • Dose: 250–500 mg twice daily 7–14 days; H. pylori: 500 mg twice daily + other drugs 10–14 days

  • Cremaffin (liquid paraffin + milk of magnesia ± sodium picosulfate)

    • Indications: Constipation

    • Dose: 15–30 mL at bedtime

  • Creon (pancrelipase)

    • Indications: Pancreatic exocrine insufficiency

    • Dose: 25,000–50,000 units with meals; 10,000–25,000 with snacks; max ~10,000 units/kg/day

D

  • Depakene (valproic acid)

    • Indications: Epilepsy, bipolar disorder

    • Dose: 600–2500 mg/day in divided doses

  • Depakote ER (divalproex sodium)

    • Indications: Epilepsy, mania, migraine prophylaxis

    • Dose: 500–1000 mg/day initially; titrate

  • Dicetel (pinaverium bromide)

    • Indications: IBS, biliary spasm

    • Dose: 50 mg TID with meals; up to 100 mg TID

  • Digene (antacid combo: aluminium/magnesium hydroxides + simethicone)

    • Indications: Dyspepsia, hyperacidity

    • Dose: 10–20 mL or 2–4 tablets after meals and at bedtime

  • Duphaston (dydrogesterone)

    • Indications: Luteal insufficiency, DUB, endometriosis, threatened/habitual miscarriage, HRT add-back

    • Dose: 10 mg BID or as per regimen (varies by indication)

  • Duphalac (lactulose)

    • Indications: Constipation, hepatic encephalopathy

    • Dose: Constipation 15–45 mL daily; HE 30–45 mL 3–4×/day titrated

  • Duspatalin / Retard (mebeverine)

    • Indications: IBS, intestinal spasm

    • Dose: 135 mg TID or MR 200 mg BID

E

  • Eptoin (phenytoin)

    • Indications: Epilepsy, seizures

    • Dose: 100 mg TID; maintenance 300–400 mg/day

F

  • Femoston (estradiol + dydrogesterone)

    • Indications: Menopausal hormone therapy

    • Dose: 1 tablet daily (1/10 or 2/10 mg regimen)

  • Fenolip (fenofibrate)

    • Indications: Dyslipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia

    • Dose: 145 mg once daily

H

  • Heptral / Transmetil / Samyr (ademetionine / S-adenosyl-L-methionine)

    • Indications: Intrahepatic cholestasis, depressive symptoms (adjunct)

    • Indications: Hypertension

    • Dose: Start 200 µg daily; up to 600 µg/day in 1–2 doses

  • Prothiaden (dosulepin/dothiepin)

    • Indications: Depression, anxiety with depression

    • Dose: 75–150 mg/day; max 225 mg/day

  • Prothiol (thiocolchicoside)

    • Indications: Muscle spasm, musculoskeletal pain

    • Dose: 4–8 mg BID

S

  • Surbex (B-complex multivitamins, e.g. Surbex-T, Surbex-Z)

    • Indications: Vitamin supplementation

    • Dose: 1 tablet daily

  • Synthroid / Thyronorm (levothyroxine)

    • Indications: Hypothyroidism

    • Dose: 25–50 µg daily initially; adjust every 4–6 weeks; full replacement ≈1.6 µg/kg/day

T

  • Teveten / Teveten Plus (eprosartan ± HCTZ)

    • Indications: Hypertension

    • Dose: 600–800 mg once daily

  • TriCor (fenofibrate) – see “F”

U

  • Udiliv (ursodeoxycholic acid)

    • Indications: Primary biliary cholangitis, cholestatic liver disease

    • Dose: 13–15 mg/kg/day in 2–3 divided doses

V

  • Valparin (sodium valproate)

    • Indications: Epilepsy, bipolar disorder

    • Dose: 600–2500 mg/day individualized
